Baseball Jumps on NSU Early, Posts 17-2 Blowout

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies scored early and often Sunday afternoon as Henderson State defeated Northeastern State in HSU's first game at Clyde Berry Field this season and last game of the 2024 Dugan Invitational, 17-2.

Henderson recorded 20 hits in the blowout victory, which is its most hits in a single game since Feb. 27, 2022, and its largest margin of victory since last season's 19-0 win over East Central.

Six Reddies recorded multiple hits, including Dillon Thomas, who went 4-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Luke Rice and true freshman Jordan Allen each tallied three hits. Louis Holt in the lead-off position got on base four times with two hits and a pair of walks.

The offensive onslaught began three batters into the game as Luke Farrar sent a two-run shot over the left field wall. The next five HSU batters each recorded a hit, followed by a Holt sac-fly to cap the first-inning scoring at six.

Northeastern St. crossed home plate a couple times in the bottom of the first inning off three hits before both teams went scoreless in the second. The Riverhawks did not record another hit the rest of the way with a combination of Reese Weaks, Mitchell Szczygiel (1-0) and Payton Byrd kept the NSU offense at bay.

Henderson's offense more than made up for the absent offense from Northeastern, scoring 11 more runs over the next five innings. The Reddies posted their second six-run inning in the fourth with four hits and four walks plus a balk to highlight the 17-run outing.

The Reddies finished the Dugan Invite 2-1 while Kaden Argenbright and Galvan were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Argenbright finished the weekend going 4-for-10 at the dish with a home run and four runs scored while Galvan claimed the win in the opener against Rogers State, pitching 5.2 innings for a 0.00 ERA while recording four strikeouts.

Henderson St. (2-1) will remain at Clyde Berry Field for the next week and a half, beginning with a Friday doubleheader at 1 and 4:30 p.m. against Northwest Missouri State and Lane College, respectively.
