ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State managed just three hits and six base runners all night as the Reddies fell to Arkansas Tech in the series opener from Clyde Berry Field Friday night, 9-0.
The HSU pitching staff issued nine walks and seven hit-batters to go with Arkansas Tech's nine hits.
Baylor Brumley saw the best outing of the red-and-gray's six pitchers they threw at ATU, finishing the final inning to allow just one run while claiming one of Henderson's four strikeouts on the night.
Henderson got three hits from true freshman
Jordan Allen,
Logan Cowart and
Luke Farrar, who was making his appearance since Feb. 4 after returning from injury. Farrar also registered a stolen base in his return to play.
Both team's pitchers did everything they could through the early going to keep the opposition at bay. Tech was able to plate two runs through five innings while ATU at that point had left eight runners at base to leave the door open for the Reddies.
Henderson's offense could just not hit the Wonder Boys all night as ATU issued 13 strikeouts on the evening. With the two-run lead still in place, the dam broke for the Reddies in the top of the sixth inning as Tech claimed its first crooked number of the night to open a 6-0 lead.
Arkansas Tech scored a single run in each of the next three innings while HSU saw just three more base runners and one more hit during the same span to give the Wonder Boys the game-one victory, 9-0.
Henderson State (9-8, 4-3 GAC) will return to Clyde Berry Field tomorrow for a doubleheader with ATU beginning at 1 p.m.
