Baseball Takes Game Two Before Dropping Game Three to Tech

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Starting pitcher Reese Weaks turned in a second great performance for the second consecutive weekend to lift Henderson State over Arkansas Tech in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 7-1, before falling to Tech in the rubber match, 5-1.

The game-three win for the Wonder Boys marks HSU's first GAC series loss at home against ATU since 2018 and its first overall GAC series home loss since Apr. 3, 2021.

Kaden Argenbright was the lone Reddie to claim hits in both games Saturday, while Weaks and Nate Moore turned in the individual performances of the weekend. Weaks earned the win in the day's opener with 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while tallying seven strikeouts. In that same game, Moore finished 3-for-4 at the plate with one run, an RBI and a walk.

Henderson St. (10-9, 5-4 GAC) will remain in Arkadelphia for its next game when it heads across Highway 7 to meet cross-street rival Ouachita Baptist in non-conference action at Rab Rodgers Field Tuesday, Mar. 5 at 2 p.m.

GAME ONE: Henderson State 7, Arkansas Tech 1
After Henderson totaled just three hits all day yesterday in the series opener, it took all of three at-bats for the Reddies to match that total. After Moore led off with a single, Argenbright quickly gave HSU its first lead of the weekend with a two-run shot over the center-field wall before Luke Farrar rounded out the hits for the trio.

On the defensive end of things, Weaks walked two of the first four batters he faced. After a brief talk with pitching coach Hayden Simpson, Weaks responded with three straight strikeouts, nearly striking out the side in the top of the second.

With the reigning GAC Pitcher of the Week continuing to uphold that title through his remaining 5.1 innings of scoreless work, HSU added another pair of runs in the fourth and sixth frame to bring the score to 6-0.

Both teams added one more run before play drew final as HSU evened the weekend series at one game apiece with 7-1 game-two victory.

GAME TWO: Arkansas Tech 5, Henderson State 1
Early on, it looked like Henderson State was going to keep the momentum going with back-to-back walks from Tech before Luke Rice eventually scored Moore for the 1-0 head start.

That quick start would not stay with on the side of the Reddies, however, as HSU totaled just three more hits the rest of the way.

After a single run came for ATU in the top of the second, the Wonder Boys plated the game-decided four runs in the third to take the defining lead, 5-1.
