ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In the conclusion of the three-game series between Henderson State and No. 22 Southern Arkansas, the Muleriders clinched a series sweep with a 9-0 win in five innings.
HSU (10-13) heads across the street for a two-game GAC series against rivals Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
Southern Arkansas jumped on Henderson in the top of the first, scoring four runs off two hits, including a two-run home run to lead 4-0. SAU's starting pitcher kept the Reddies' offense in check all game with zero hits allowed in the first four innings while just walking just one batter.
Jodi De Hart was the only baserunner HSU recorded, which came in the bottom of the third with two outs.
During that time, SAU added runs in the third and fourth frames to extend its lead to 6-0. Two home runs in the top of the fifth off the bat of Mulerider hitters stretched Southern Arkansas's edge to 9-0. HSU's struggles at the plate continued in the fifth, as the side went down in order for the second consecutive inning.
