CLINTON, Miss. - Henderson State led for the first five and a half innings Tuesday night, but Mississippi College extended the game to an 11th inning before taking the midweek contest, 8-7.
Catcher
Austin Scritchfield had a career showing at the plate, posting a career-high four hits, three of which were doubles, and two RBI. Coming into the day, Scritchfield had only logged two doubles on the season.
Kaden Argenbright added three hits to go with his team-high 29 hits on the season. Argenbright has recorded multiple hits in four of his last five outings.
Cal Jones,
Luke Farrar and
Dillon Thomas also tallied two hits a piece.
The Reddies scored a quick five runs in the first three innings for a five-run lead. Mississippi College took the early hit and scored five unanswered runs of its own over the next three innings.
Both teams added single runs in the sixth to keep the game tied, 6-6. The scoring took an abrupt halt, however, as the score remained tied until free baseball in the 10th frame. Jones broke the scoring hiatus with a two-out solo home run to put HSU ahead, 7-6.
The Choctaws tied it back up before bringing the game-winning run to third base with still one out to work with. A fly out to right field extended play yet again to the 11th. After the Reddies were forced to strand a pair of runners in the visitor-half of the frame, MC ended it with a lead-off home run to bring the final tally to 8-7.
Henderson St. (12-12, 7-5 GAC) will return to Clyde Berry Field this weekend when it welcomes Southeastern Oklahoma State to Arkadelphia with a three-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 15 at 6 p.m.
