ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State used 15 hits Friday night to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State in game one of the weekend's three-game series from Clyde Berry Field, 16-6.
Kaden Argenbright delivered his best game of the season with four hits, including a double and a home run, while adding four RBI, two runs and a walk. Argenbright was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The senior infielder now holds the record for most doubles in program history with 61 for his career.
Mitchell Szczygiel recorded a season-high three hits as an initial pinch-hitter to back up Argenbright. Szczygiel delivered HSU's second home run of the game for his one RBI.
Andrew Howard got the win on the mound in relief work, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out six Savage Storm batters.
Luke Carter earned a no-decision, entering the game to get the final two outs, halting what was SE's final effort in getting back into the game.
After Southeastern claimed the early 1-0 lead after half an inning, HSU quickly took the lead with a three-run bottom of the first before another three runs in the second to open a four-run advantage, 6-2.
After the opening two frames, both squads matched the other with three runs over the next two frames before a single run in the home-half of the sixth brought the tally to 10-5.
A late-game threat from the Savage Storm came in the top of the eighth as a lead-off double led to a run before Carter came to the bump with two Savage Storm base runners on and just one out against them. Carter struck out the first batter he faced before issuing a ground-out to stall the threat.
Henderson's offense ended play early in the eighth, thanks to four hits and six wild pitches as HSU took the opening victory, 16-6. The Reddies (13-12, 8-5 GAC) will go for the series sweep in tomorrow's doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
