Reddies Defeat OUA 3-1 to Claim the Season Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State softball takes the series from rivals Ouachita Baptist for its third conference win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers at Dee White Field.
 
Makenna Keeton got her second win of the season in the circle to improve to 2-6 after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just one run. Presley Applegate pitched the final 3.0 frames and surrendered two hits and zero runs for her second save of the year. The Reddies recorded seven hits, led by Hilary Akers with two knocks.
 
Henderson struck first in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. HSU had the bases loaded, and Mackenzie Williams worked a walk with two outs to score the opening run. Following a scoreless third inning, the two sides traded blows in the fourth, beginning with a solo home run by the Tigers in the top half to tie the game 1-all.
 
HSU replied in the bottom of the fourth with a run to retake the lead 2-1. The Reddies had two runners on with one out after Katelyn McMahan singled, and Williams worked her second walk of the game. In the following at-bat, Jorika Alvarez singled up the middle for her first hit of the game and scored McMahan from second. The red-and-grey tacked on another run in the fifth to give themselves a two-run advantage.
 
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth following a hit and back-to-back walks, Jay Albiter singled up the middle to plate Addison Tidwell from third to make it 3-1.
 
The Tigers had the Reddies under pressure in the top of the seventh with two on and one out, following a leadoff double and a walk. Relief pitcher Applegate settled in and found the final two outs of the game to secure the 3-1 win.
