BETHANY, Okla. - Henderson State strung together 20 hits Friday afternoon and used an 11-spot in the ninth inning to post its largest win over Southern Nazarene in the GAC era, 22-5.
22 runs is tied for the most runs HSU has scored in a single games since 2020 when the Reddies put up 25 against this same SNU team. Henderson also had 20 hits in that 13-run victory.
Kyle Williams (1-1) did his part on the mound, working six innings while allowing just one run on four hits, striking out four Crimson Storm batters. At the plate for HSU,
Cal Jones and
Kaden Argenbright each recorded three hits to lead seven Reddies who claimed at least two hits.
Argenbright led the team with four RBI while
Jordan Allen and
Austin Scritchfield tallied three RBI, with all three of Scritchfield's runs scored coming on a three-run homer in the ninth for HSU's final three runs of the game.
The Reddies quickly opened the game's scoring, plating three runs on two outs, including one of Henderson's four home runs for the contest. The Crimson Storm tallied a single run in the bottom of the first, but that would be their only score until the seventh frame.
While Williams kept Southern Nazarene at bay, HSU held its 3-1 lead until the fifth inning, plating two more runs for the 5-1 advantage. Another two runs put the lead at seven, 8-1, before the Crimson Storm added to their total with two runs in the seventh.
Over the next two frames, Henderson scored 14 runs while SNU added two. In the 11-run ninth, HSU had 16 batters come to the plate, resulting in nine hits, including three home runs.
Henderson St. (20-19, 14-11 GAC) will return to Feland Field for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. with the series finale set for 3 p.m.
