SHAWNEE, Okla. – Henderson State falls in Friday's conference doubleheader at (RV) Oklahoma Baptist to open the series with Bison. OKBU took the first game 9-0 and would win the second contest 10-0.
HSU (20-27, 11-18) concludes the series with Oklahoma Baptist tomorrow at noon from the Bison Softball Park.
GAME ONE: OKBU 9, HSU 0 (5 inn.)
Jorika Alvarez led off the top of the first with a single for the Reddies' first base runner of the game, but Oklahoma Baptist's ace Kayleigh Jones struck out two of the three next outs to end in the frame. In the bottom half, the Bison notched two doubles and singles to plate a pair of runs and take a 2-0 lead.
Both sides posted zeros on the scoreboard in the second, but Oklahoma Baptist would pick up the scoring in the third, adding six runs to its advantage to stretch the lead to 8-0. The Bison recorded four runs off a pair of home runs and another two scores on a double.
The Reddies had a runner in scoring position in the fourth after
Hilary Akers began the inning with a double, though the pitching from the Bison would keep the freshman from advancing any further. OKBU saw one more run reach home before the final out of the game to take the series opener 9-0.
GAME TWO: OKBU 10, HSU 0 (5 inn.)
Lily Warren threatened to score the first run of the game after reaching on a single in the top of the first with two outs. The freshman stole second and then third to get 60 feet from home, but the Bison would strand the runner, getting a flyout for the final out.
From there, OKBU took control, beginning in the bottom of the second, as the Bison plated their first run of the game. Oklahoma Baptist exploded in the following inning, scoring nine runs in the third to stretch the lead to 10-0. Eight of the OKBU's nine hits in the game came in the one frame.
