ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State finished off the 2023-24 regular season with a 4-1 win over Fort Hays State at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
Seniors
Tirzah Bailey,
Mulan Kamoe,
Marianna Murcia and
Haarini Balakrishnan helped propel HSU to 13-8 overall with the senior day victory.
Kamoe lost just two games between doubles and singles as the defending GAC Player of the Year finished her final campaign in Arkadelphia with a 12-6 record in doubles and 15-6 stand at singles, all of which came at the No. 1 spot.
The Nasoso Nadi, Fiji native alongside
Kristina Kozlova picked up the first doubles win for the Reddies, blanking Fort Hays' top tandem, 6-0.
Jenna Kate Bohnert and
Angela Georgieva, after holding a slim 2-1 lead, secured four of the final five games for the 6-2 win.
With the red-and-gray holding the early 1-0 lead, three singles matches separated Henderson from clinching. Head coach Annabel Harvey got that from three of her seniors in Kamoe, Murcia and Balakrishnan.
Kamoe claimed the easy-going 6-1, 6-1 win, followed by Murcia, 6-2, 6-1 and Balakrishnan, 6-1, 7-5, for her first win of the season at the No. 5 spot.
Henderson St. (13-8, 3-2 GAC) will head into the GAC Championships as the No. 4 seed, where they will face No. 5 Arkansas Tech in the first round from Bentonville, Ark., Thursday, Apr. 25. The Reddies won both meetings with the Golden Suns this season.
