Tennis Advances to GAC Semis with 4-2 Win Over Ouachita

LOWELL, Ark. - For the second straight year, the Henderson State women's tennis program advances to the GAC Tournament Semifinals with a 4-2 win over Ouachita Baptist in the first ever meeting between the two rivals in the GAC Championships.

The win marks the Reddies' 14th victory of the season and the 21st consecutive victory over the Tigers.

Henderson State took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 as Mulan Kamoe and Kristina Kozlova extended their win streak to seven matches with the 6-3 win. Marianna Murcia and Haarini Balakrishnan clinched the point with a 6-2 victory as the duo is now 11-4 as partners this season.

Jenna Kate Bohnert claimed her first win of the day with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles before Angela Georgieva made it 3-0 in favor of the red-and-gray with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 3 line.

With HSU one point away from clinching the overall match, Ouachita came through with wins at No. 1 and No. 5, leaving two matches for Henderson to pick up one more win. Kristina Kozlova, after dropping her opening set, came through to punch the Reddies' ticket to the semifinals.

After falling 6-3 in the opening frame, Kozlova flipped the script with a 6-1 second-set victory before continuing the attained momentum with a 6-2 match-clinching third set win.

No. 3 seed Henderson State will now face No. 2 seed and No. 15 nationally ranked Southern Arkansas Friday, Apr. 26 at 1 p.m. for a chance at a spot in the GAC title match.
