Red Wave Men Take Second, Women Finish Third at 2024 All-Arkansas Invite

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.  -  In their first meet of the 2024-25 season, Henderson State's men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished second and third, respectively, in the 2024 All-Arkansas Invitational in Little Rock, Arkansas.

NSISC rival Ouachita Baptist took first in the three-team men's field with a total score of 631.5. The Red Wave came in second with 606.5 points, while Harding finished third with 204 points.

On the women's side, host Little Rock claimed first in a four-team field with a final score of 710. Ouachita Baptist placed second with 508 points, the Red Wave took third with 432 points, and Harding rounded out the standing in fourth with 201 points.

Efe Ertzun set a new All-Arkansas Invite record after winning the men's 200 Yard IM event with a time of 1:53.39. Nojus Skirutis also made the podium with a time of 1:57.41 for the event.

Colin Candebat added his own name to the Invite's record book with a winning time of 49.86 seconds in the men's 100 Yard Butterfly.

Patryk Dabrowski earned another Invite record for the Red Wave by taking first in the men's 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 46.37 seconds. Earlier in the day, he won the men's 50 Yard Freestyle by finishing in 20.99 seconds. Oliver Pozvai (21.24 seconds) and Vitor Sa (21.75) claimed second and third for a Reddie sweep of the podium. 

Colton Bennett won the men's 500 Yard Freestyle with yet another meet record of 4:36.89. 

Oskar Cebula gave the Red Wave men's team its fifth and final All-Arkansas Invite record of the day by winning the men's 100 Yard Breaststroke in 58.15 seconds.

Jean Ducastel picked up a victory in the men's 100 Yard Backstroke (51.68 seconds).

As a team, the Red Wave won both the men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The winning 200 Yard team featured Sa, Pozvai, Debrowski, and Luka Herceg, while the victorious 400 Yard squad included Candebat, Sa, Pozvai, Debrowski.

In the women's 50 Yard Freestyle, Kiara Pozvai added 20 points to her team's total by finishing with a first-place time of 23.56 seconds. She later took second in the women's 100 Yard Freestyle (51.82 seconds).

The Red Wave reached the podium in the women's 400 Yard Freestyle event when the team of Pozvai, Valerie Grigar, Emily Hand, and Shelby Travis earned third with a time of 3:39.44.

After Saturday, the Red Wave will have nearly one month to prepare for its next meet against Oklahoma Christian. That meet, which will also serve as Henderson's home opener, is scheduled for a noon start on Saturday, October 12.
