PITTSBURG, Kans. - Henderson State Volleyball began play in the Pittsburg State Regional Challenge today versus Emporia State and Missouri S&T. The Reddies went 1-1 on the first day of competition.
The Reddies kicked off the tournament versus Emporia State losing the match 3-1. After losing the first set the Reddies fought back in the second. After a Reddies six point run during the middle of the set the Reddies pushed Emporia State to a 25-25 score before eventually falling 28-26.
The third set proved to be the best for the Reddies winning 25-17. Led by freshman
Braxton Jones, Jones contributed nine assists in the set and spurred a 3-0 start to the set with her serving. Jones led the team in assists during the match with 22. The Reddies fell to Emporia State in the fourth set 25-18.
In their second match of the day the Reddies took the court to face Missouri S&T. The Reddies bounced back after losing the first match of the day beating Missouri S&T 3-1 behind strong offense and serving.
In the first set the Reddies were bested 25-21. The Reddies bounced back with a dominant second set win. The Reddies won 25-15, led by eight straight by points to start the set 9-1. The eight-point run carried the Reddies to a 21-15 lead and the win was sealed with four straight points to end the set.
The Reddies won the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-19 led by six aces and 26 kills between the sets. The Reddies were led defensively by
Larkin Luke who finished with six blocks and
Kaylon Partain contributing 28 digs. The Reddies found a balance between setters with freshman
Braxton Jones and senior
Madison Hatt combining for 43 assists in the match.
The Reddies resume play in the Pittsburg State Regional Challenge tomorrow at 9 a.m. versus Washburn University before returning to GAC play.
