ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State closed out a snowy January weekend with a thrilling 72-69 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Duke Wells Center on Saturday.
After trailing by two going into the halftime break, the Reddies outscored the Rangers 20-16 in the third quarter to take the lead. A low-scoring, back-and-forth fourth quarter saw HSU hang on for the win.
Natalie Cardenas paced the Reddies with 21 points, due in large part to a 10-for-12 performance at the free-throw line. The sophomore from Mesquite, Texas, has now reached double figures in five of Henderson's last six contests, including three games with more than 20 points.
Klowie Pike set a new season high with 16 points in Saturday's win. She went a perfect five-for-five from three-point range.
Brynlee Huggins recorded a career-high three blocks against the Rangers. The junior also posted 12 points, marking the 11th time in HSU's last 12 games that she has scored a dozen or more.
Sam Basson had 10 points and two steals in the victory, bringing her double-digit scoring streak to three straight contests.
Five different Reddies collected five or more rebounds, with Bobbi Bazzle topping the team with seven.
Following Saturday's win, Henderson now holds sole possession of fifth place in the Great American Conference standings.
Up next on the Reddies' schedule is a road matchup at Southern Nazarene on Thursday, January 16. Tip-off at SNU's Sawyer Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.
