Reddies Look to Complete Consecutive Series Sweeps for the First Time This Season, Versus Southeastern

MBB GAME NOTES: VERSUS SOUTHEASTERN FEBRUARY 1, 2025

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State is set to face off versus the Savage Storm who they beat after a Rondae Hill go-ahead game winner in Durant, Okla. to start GAC play.
 
The last time the Reddies and Savage Storm faced off was December 5, 2024, at Southeastern. Without Xavier Owens for most of the game the two teams were knotted at 71 following a Savage Storm layup. With the chance to give the Savage Storm a one-point lead DJ Dill missed the free-throw, and Tim McDonald rebounded the ball and passed it to Hill who took the ball the length of the court and drilled a three from the right wing. Hill scored 13 points and connected on a team high three three-pointers.
 
Against Southeastern the Reddies scored 42 points in the paint while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 7-15 from deep.
 
At home this season during conference play the Reddies are averaging 82.2 ppg while holding opponents to just 77.8 ppg. The Reddies biggest win at home during conference play came against Northwestern 96-70.
 
The Reddies currently have seven players averaging five or more points per game during conference play with Igiehon leading the team with 14.8 ppg while shooting 52.2 percent from the field and leading the team in rebounds with 6.8 rpg. Matthew Mayes returned versus East Central and scored 18 points on 50% shooting from the field. Mayes currently leads the conference in stocks per game (steals+blocks) (3.8) and is averaging 12.6 ppg and is second on the team in both assists and rebounds per game.
 
The Reddies currently sit tied for third in the conference with Ouachita Baptist and Harding at 8-5 in conference play.
 
Since losing to Henderson State at home to start conference play the Savage Storm season has struggled to get going. Southeastern sits at just 6-13 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
 
The Savage Storm's biggest wins this season have come against the two teams Henderson State is tied with in the standings. The Savage Storm defeated Ouachita Baptist in their first meeting of the year and soundly defeated Harding at home by 36 points.
 
The Savage Storm are led by freshman DJ Dill who is averaging 14 ppg and redshirt junior Robert Briley who is averaging 11 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 7.2 rpg.
 
In their last outing the Savage Storm fell to Ouachita Baptist 83-53. The Savage Storm shot just 32.3 from the field and 25.9 percent from deep. Dill scored 11 points off the bench on 4-9 shooting from the field.
 
Southeastern is led by Kelly Green who is in his 14th season with an overall record of 214-119.
 
Players to Watch:
In his return from a two-game absence Matthew Mayes scored 18 points and recorded two blocks en route to a +12 +/-.
 
Xavier Owens had a bounce back game. Versus east Central, scoring 11 points and hauling in six rebounds while leading all players with a +14 +/-.
 
Tip off versus the Savage Storm is set for 3 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
