ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson faced off the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State tonight in well-fought match, but unfortunately lost 3-2.
"Fun match, was competitive, loved our energy tonight" said Coach McDaniel, "unfortunately too many runs are what sunk us tonight against a solid team. Hit the road to Oklahoma next week, and excited to see how we do."
The Reddies fought hard tonight, as
Katilyn Steffes led the team with a career-high 29 kills, while
Kelis Battles followed with 22.
Tyhia Mack continues to lead the offense in assists, as she collected 30 on the night, while
Braxton Jones collected 14.
Berkeley Berry continues to lead the team in service aces, with two on the night. On the defensive side,
Kaylon Partain led the Reddies with 37 digs, while Steffes added 20.
Cassidi Campbell led the team in blocks tonight, adding six to her total, while
Lasheena Gooseberry and Steffes both added two.
Match Recap
The first set started off well for the Reddies as they were able to take a quick 5-1 lead, and SWOSU took a timeout. The Reddies kept up the pressure, as another 3-0 run gave the Reddies an 8-2 lead. The Reddies extended their lead to 13-6, before a 5-0 run by SWOSU brought the score to 13-10. Another 3-0 run brought the score to 14-13, and Henderson took their first timeout. The Reddies pulled ahead to 21-18 off a 3-0 run, and SWOSU took a timeout. The Bulldogs then responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead 22-21, and Henderson took a timeout. While the Reddies stayed competitive, two straight points gave the Bulldogs set point, and eventually the match 25-23.
The Bulldogs were the first to strike in the second set, pulling ahead 4-0. SWOSU continued to hold the lead while the Reddies tried to climb back, eventually taking the lead 7-6. SWOSU struck back with a 3-0 run to take the lead 10-8, before the Reddies were able to tie it 10-10. Henderson took the lead 13-11, before they extended the lead to 15-12. SWOSU pulled ahead 19-18, forcing the Reddies to take a timeout. The Reddies were able to push back, retaking the lead 21-20, before another two straight points gave the Bulldogs the lead 22-21. The Reddies were able to tie it at 24-24, and SWOSU took a timeout. Going into extra points, the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Reddies, eventually winning the set 27-25.
In the third set, the Reddies took off early, as they took a 5-0 lead. SWOSU responded with their own 5-0 run to tie it 5-5. Both teams exchanged points until a 3-0 run by the Bulldogs gave them the lead 12-11. The Reddies rallied, and used a 4-0 run to pull ahead 17-14, and SWOSU took a timeout. Henderson kept their lead, until a 3-0 run by Southwestern tied it at 20-20 and the Reddies took a timeout. A 3-0 run forced SWOSU to take a timeout, and the Reddies eventually captured the set 25-21.
In the fourth set, SWOSU took an early 5-3 lead. Henderson pushed back, taking the lead 8-6 before a Bulldog timeout. A 6-0 run by SWOSU forced a Reddie timeout, the score at 13-9. The Reddies fought back, holding the lead 20-18, forcing a Southwestern timeout. The Reddies were able to bring it to match point 24-20, and eventually won the set 25-21.
In the fifth set, it was tightly contested, as both teams never held more than a one point lead before the Reddies took a 8-6 lead, and SWOSU took a timeout. Henderson extended their lead to 11-8, before SWOSU rallied to bring it to match point 14-13, and the Reddies took a timeout. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were able to hold on, and captured the set and match 16-14.
