ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson faced off against Lane College and Texas A&M-Texarkana in a Tri-match tonight. They first faced Lane College, where the Reddies swept the Dragons 3-0. Henderson then took on Texas A&M-Texarkana, where the Reddies fell in 5 sets, 3-2.
"We started the night well, but couldn't maintain momentum" said Coach McDaniel, "We made too many mistakes. We are now focused on getting ready for Thursday."
The Reddies had some strong offensive showings, as
Kelis Battles led the Reddies with 28 kills, while
Lasheena Gooseberry followed with 27 on the night, including a career high 16 kills against Lane.
Tyhia Mack continues to lead the offense, as she posted 32 assists, while
Skylar Holler provided 27.
Berkeley Berry provided four service aces for the Reddies, while
Kaylon Partain provided 3. On Defense, the Reddies saw flashes, as Battles led the team in digs tonight with 37, with Partain right behind her with 36. At the net,
Cassidi Campbell continues to provide solid defense, logging three total blocks, while
Rylee Smith recorded three as well.
HSU vs. Lane
The first set started off well for the Reddies, as they quickly took a 4-1 lead. Lane was able to bring the score to 6-4, before a 9-0 run by the Reddies, led three kills by Battles and three aces by Berry gave the Reddies a 14-4 lead. Lane was able to claw back to bring the score to 17-9, before another 4-0 run led by Gooseberry's two kills gave Henderson a 21-9 lead. The Dragons were unable to mount a comeback, and the Reddies cruised to a 25-12 set win.
In the second set, the Reddies continued their hot start, as they took a quick 3-1 lead. Henderson then went on a tear, using a 15-1 run, led by Gooseberry, who contributed five kills, to take a 17-2 lead. Another 4-0 run gave the Reddies a 21-3 lead, with Berry providing a service ace. While Lane was able to score another point, one last 4-0 run gave the Reddies a 25-4 win.
In the final set, the Reddies took another early lead, as Gooseberry recorded two kills, and along with
Madison Proctor, a block to take a 4-1 lead. Battles led with four kills during an 11-0 run to give the Reddies a 16-4 lead. The Dragons were able to bring the score to 18-7, before the Reddies used a 3-0 run, including a
Madison Widmayer service ace extending their lead to 21-7. Lane was unable to make much of a comeback, and the Reddies secured the set and match 25-11.
HSU vs. TAMUT
The first set was a back-and-forth affair, as both teams exchanged points early, with both teams holding leads multiple times, until a 3-0 run by the Eagles gave TAMUT a 15-13 lead. The Reddies responded with a 3-0 run to recapture the lead 17-16, and another 3-0 run gave Henderson a 20-17 lead, forcing a timeout by the Eagles. While TAMUT attempted to catch up, the Reddies maintained the lead and won the first set 25-19.
In the second set, the Eagles quickly pulled ahead 6-0 and eventually held a 11-1 lead. The Reddies tried to keep up, using a 3-0 run to make the score 15-9 to force a timeout from TAMUT. The Eagles were able to maintain their lead and had the score 23-12. Another 4-0 run by the Reddies brought the score to 23-16, forcing the second TAMUT timeout. The Reddies continued to rally, as they scored a 4-0 run to bring the score to 24-20, the Eagles were able to seal the set, 25-20.
In the third set, TAMUT took another fast lead, pulling ahead 5-0. This time, the Reddies were able to put together several strong points to stay in the set, bringing the score to 7-6. The Eagles continued to hold off the Reddies and held a 13-9 lead. The Reddies used a 3-0 run to once again pull within one, but another run by the Eagles brought the score to 17-12, and Henderson took a timeout. The Reddies stayed in it, as they used a 6-0 run pulled to make the score 22-21, and TAMUT took a timeout. The Reddies continued to surge and maintained momentum as they held off the Eagles to win the set 25-23.
In the fourth set, it was a closer affair early, as the score sat tied 6-6. The Reddies were able to pull ahead 10-8, and used a 3-0 run to hold the score at 13-9. The Eagles were able to catch up, and tied the score at 18-18. The two teams continued to trade points, rarely getting more than a one point lead until a late surge gave the Eagles a 24-22 lead, and were ultimately able to take the set 25-23.
In the final set, both teams exchanged points early, but the Reddies used a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. The Eagles were able to surge back and a 4-0 run gave them a 9-6 lead, and Henderson took a timeout. A 4-0 run later gave the Reddies the lead 12-11, and TAMUT took a timeout. The Eagles rallied and used a 3-0 run to pull ahead 14-12, and Henderson took a timeout. Unfortunately, the Reddies could not recover, and the Eagles captured the set and match 15-13.
