Reddies Best Blossoms on the Road in Five

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Henderson went on the road to Monticello to face the Blossoms of University of Arkansas at Monticello tonight, winning in five sets, 3-2.

"A hard fought win" said Coach McDaniel, "We fought hard, and we needed the win, now we're on to Ouachita on Thursday."

The Reddie offense was led by Katilyn Steffes who led the team with a career-high 32 kills, while Kelis Battles followed with 12 kills. The Reddie offense was orchestrated by Braxton Jones tonight, who also recorded a career-high in assists with 41, while Skylar Holler added on 11 assists. At the line, Holler led the Reddies with three service aces, while Berkeley Berry added two. Defensively, Kaylon Partain led the Reddies with 33 digs, while Steffes followed with 20. At the net, Lasheena Gooseberry led the Reddies with 4.5 blocks, while Steffes added three.

Match Recap

The first set started off contested, as both teams exchanged points early, with UAM holding a slight lead 3-5. A 3-0 run by the Reddies gave them a 7-6 lead. Both teams exchanged points, before the Blossoms used a 3-0 to take an 11-8 lead, and Henderson took a timeout. While the Blossoms extended their lead, the Reddies fought back, bringing the score to 13-15, and UAM took a timeout. Both teams continued to battle, as Henderson pushed to tie the score, but UAM would not sacrifice the lead and held a 21-18 before the Reddies took another timeout. Henderson refused to surrender, and a 3-0 run tied the set at 23-23, and UAM took their second timeout. The Reddies were able to push to match point, but another point by UAM took it to extra points. UAM held the Reddies and won the first set 30-28.

It was another close start to the second set, as both teams exchanged points early, until a 3-0 run by the Blossoms gave them a 4-2 lead. The Reddies responded, using a 4-0 run to take the lead 7-4. UAM pushed to tie the score, but Henderson held them off, maintaining the lead. A 4-0 run extended the lead for Henderson to 14-9, and UAM took their first timeout. The Blossoms tried to keep up, but Henderson kept pushing, as they extended their lead, using a 7-0 to bring the score to set point, 24-12. While UAM scored another point, Henderson finished the set 25-13.

In the third set, UAM took the lead early 4-2. Henderson fought back, as they tied the game 5-5. Both teams kept exchanging points, holding no more than a one-point lead, until a 3-0 run by UAM gave them a 9-6 lead. The Reddies fought back, using several key points, including a 3-0 run to tie the score 14-14. The run extended to 5-0 to give Henderson the lead 16-14. While the Blossoms were able to tie several times, the Reddies kept up the pressure to maintain their lead, using two straight points to pull ahead 21-19. The Blossoms continued to fight, taking the score to set point 24-23, before Henderson forced extra points. Unfortunately, the Reddies couldn't hang on and lost set three 26-24.

The fourth set began with the Reddies taking a 4-1 lead, while UAM scored another point, Henderson used a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 8-2. The Reddies continued to push, as they prevented the Blossoms from starting any kind of run, as they continued to extend their lead to 12-4. UAM continued to fight, using a 3-0 run to bring the score to 13-9, but the Reddies wouldn't let the run go any further, as they used a 3-0 run to put the score at 16-9. Another 3-0 run by the Blossoms brought the score to 17-13, but the Reddies scored a point to put the score to 18-13. Both teams continued to fight, as Henderson pushed the score to 21-17, and UAM took a timeout. The Reddies continued to hold momentum, as they brought the score to set point, 24-18, and ultimately won the set 25-18.

In the final set, the Reddies took the lead early off a 5-0 run, with the score at 6-1. While UAM fought back, Henderson kept up the pressure, and held the lead 8-4, and forced the Blossoms to take a timeout. The Reddies continued to push, as they extended their lead to 11-6. UAM continued to fight, but the Reddies stood firm, as they pushed it to match point 14-10, and ultimately won the set and match 15-10.

The Reddies return home to host Ouachita Baptist November 13th in the second Battle of the Ravine match at 6:30 PM in the Duke Wells Center.
