Reddies Fall to Minnesota State at Central Region Challenge

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Henderson State put together one of its most efficient offensive performances of the young season, but a slow start and a barrage of Minnesota State 3-pointers proved too much to overcome in a 93–84 loss Saturday at John Lance Arena.

The Reddies (0–2) shot 51.5 percent from the field and 61.3 percent after halftime, outscoring the Mavericks 47–42 in the second half. But MSU knocked down 13 threes and controlled the glass just enough to stay in front wire-to-wire.

Junior guard Zaveion Okoh led Henderson State with 18 points, scoring 12 of them after halftime, including a late flurry that briefly trimmed the deficit to single digits.

Senior forward Deazhon Perkins matched Okoh with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and was a steady interior presence, sparking several second-half runs.

Xavier Owens added 15 points, attacking the rim in transition and scoring nine in the second half. Jabari West finished with 9 points, 2 rebounds, and two assists in 19 minutes.

Henderson State dominated the paint statistically, outscoring MSU 50–28 inside and generating 13 second-chance points. But Minnesota State countered with long-range shooting—six threes from Colton Benson and three from Arhman Lewis, who finished with a game-high 23 points.

The Mavericks pushed their lead to 24 midway through the second half before the Reddies mounted their best stretch of the day. Perkins scored eight points in five minutes, and Okoh added a deep three and a transition layup to cap a 10–2 run that pulled HSU within 85–75 with under four minutes to play.

The Reddies return to action on Wednesday in the home opener. Henderson will host Champion Christian at 7:30 p.m. from the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
