Freshman Willis Shines, Women's Basketball Best Choctaws

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies faced off against the Choctaws of Mississippi College tonight in the Duke Wells Center, defeating them 83-67.

The Reddies (2-0, 0-0) had four players with double-digits points tonight, with Macy Willis continuing her strong start, leading the way with 22 points on 57.1 percent shooting from the paint, and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Natalie Cardenas put up 21 points, finishing 7 for 16 from the field and 1-7 from three. Brynlee Huggins and Grayson Fairless both recorded double-doubles tonight, with Fairless leading with 19 points and 18 rebounds, while Huggins recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. Willis also recorded four steals on the night to lead the Reddies.

Game Recap
The Reddies started off the night with two jumpers by Willis and a free-throw by Huggins made the score 5-0 for Henderson. While the Choctaws fought back, bringing the score to 7-4, 6 unanswered points extended the lead to 13-4 for Henderson with 5:27 left in the quarter. The Choctaws responded with six unanswered points of their own to narrow the lead to 13-10 before Cardenas ended the run with a layup off a steal by Riley Samples to make the score 15-10. The Reddies kept up the pressure, as a three by Cardenas aided 10 more points by the Reddies who led the Choctaws 25-12 at the end of the first.

The Choctaws struck first out of the break, as they scored four straight points to narrow Henderson's lead 25-16, but the Reddies responded, using six unanswered points to extend their lead again, 31-16. A three by Marlee Raby pushed the lead to 34-16, before the Choctaws were able to end the run. While Mississippi College tried to keep up with the Reddies, Henderson kept their lead at double digits, holding a 40-24 lead with 1:29 left in the half. With less than a minute left, Mississippi College surged, scoring four straight points to make the score 40-28 before the end of the half.

Coming out of the half, the Reddies struck first, bringing it to 42-28. The Reddies continued to push, as six unanswered points extended the score to 51-32, but the Choctaws responded with their own six unanswered points to bring the score to 51-38 with 5:53 left in the third. A flurry of points came from both sides, as the score sat at 58-44 going into the last two minutes of the quarter. The last two minutes continued the scoring, as the Reddies scored five straight points, before the Choctaws responded with four to set the score at 63-48 at the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter, the flurry of scoring continued, as the Reddies and Choctaws scored a combined 10 points within a minute of play, as with 7:51 left to go, the Reddies held a 70-52 lead, with Willis contributing six points during the span. Another two points by Huggins gave the Reddies their largest lead of the game, 72-52. The Reddies extended their lead to 74-52 before the Choctaws were able to respond, using another six-point run to narrow the lead to 74-58. Both teams exchanged points, with the Reddies holding a 78-63 lead with 2:36 left in the game. Heading into the last two minutes of the game, the Reddies scored five unanswered points to bring the score to 83-64, before a three with less than a minute left gave the Choctaws an 83-67 deficit. It wasn't enough however to spark a comeback, and the Reddies held off Mississippi College to win the game 83-67.
