ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies faced off against the Northeastern State Riverhawks tonight, and captured the win 71-64.
The Reddies (3-0, 0-0) were led tonight by
Natalie Cardenas with 18 points. She was 5-13 from the paint, and 7-8 from the free-throw line.
Brynlee Huggins contributed 17 points for the Reddies, and
Macy Willis recorded 10. At the rim,
Grayson Fairless recorded 13 rebounds, while Huggins recorded seven.
Marlee Raby recorded three steals on the night, while Cardenas and
Sam Basson each had two.
Game Recap
The Reddies started off the night with 5 straight points to take the lead 5-2. The Riverhawks used 15 unanswered points to take the lead 19-7, but the Reddies utilized six points to bring the score to 19-13 to finish the first.
The Reddies continued their momentum into the second, as they scored five more unanswered points to bring the score to 19-18 before the Riverhawks were able to respond. Northeastern State extended their lead to 25-20, before a back-and-forth scoring affair occurred the rest of the quarter. Both teams scored six points, and going into the half, Northeastern held a 31-26 lead.
Coming out of the half, Huggins began scoring with a three to bring the score to within two, but the Riverhawks kept pushing their lead. A key seven point run by the Reddies gave them their first lead of the game, 42-39, and while the Riverhawks captured it, Cardenas scored a jumper and a three-pointer to recapture the lead going into the final quarter 47-43.
In the final quarter, the Riverhawks came out swinging, using seven unanswered points to take the lead 50-47, and though Huggins tied it with a three, Northeastern pulled ahead again, 53-50. The Reddies continued to battle, and tied it twice, first at 56-56, then at 58-58.
Sam Basson sunk a three to make the score 61-58, and the Reddies never sacrificed the lead again. Cardenas supplied five points and Huggins three, to secure the victory 71-64.
