Balanced Scoring, Defense Leads Men's Basketball in Victory over Lyon

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State had five players score in double figures and forced 25 Lyon College turnovers en route to a dominant 96-58 win on Saturday afternoon.

The first six minutes were evenly matched before a 14-4 HSU run got the game to a double-digit lead; Henderson was not satisfied with that ten-point advantage, going on a 17-4 run just before the end of the half to go into the break with a 47-24 lead. The Reddies scored 21 points off 14 Scot turnovers in the first half alone and recorded nine steals in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half was a testament to the HSU depth; all 15 Reddie players saw action in the period, with just one player playing for more than 10 minutes in the half. The Reddies scored 48 points in the paint and held the lead for over 35 minutes in the game.

Henderson shot 59 percent from the field on the afternoon, including going seven-of-thirteen from three-point range and 15-for-16 at the free throw line while holding Lyon to just one-of-seven. The Scots were held to just 44 percent shooting from the field in the game.

Xavier Owens paced the Henderson offense, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first half on four-of-seven shooting. KJ Sykes led the team with 17 points, Owens added 13, Grey Garrison and Jameel Wesley II each contributed 11, and Creed Williamson had 10 points for the Reddies. Owens and Garrison led the team with five rebounds each.

HSU is back in action on Wednesday, finishing a three-game homestand with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
