Reddies Prevail Over Arkansas Tech in Low-Scoring Affair

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State surged late behind a balanced second-half push and key defensive stops to edge Arkansas Tech 63–59 on Thursday night at the Duke Wells Center.

Zaveion Okoh scored a team-high 15 points and Xavier Owens added 13 as the Reddies (5–4, 2–1 GAC) overturned a four-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Wonder Boys 36–28 after the break. Jabari West was perfect from the floor and finished with 10 points.

Henderson State seized control late with a 12–2 run in the final four minutes. After Okoh split a pair of free throws to put the Reddies ahead 56–54 with 1:22 remaining, West converted a transition layup off a turnover with 37 seconds left to extend the lead to five. KJ Sykes then hit four straight free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal the win.

The Reddies' defense tightened as the game progressed, forcing Arkansas Tech into 17-of-51 shooting (33 percent) on the night. Henderson also generated 12 steals, turning them into 11 fast-break points. Owens repeatedly shifted momentum with plays in transition, finishing with five steals and multiple key buckets in the paint, including a second-chance tip-in to tie the game at 49 with 7:22 left.

Okoh provided scoring throughout the night, knocking down the game's opening basket—a three at 19:26—and later converting through contact at crucial moments. He finished 4-of-11 from the field and 6-of-11 at the line while pulling down five rebounds.

Tyson Whybrew added seven points and six rebounds, going 5-of-6 at the free-throw line in the second half as Henderson steadied itself during several momentum swings. Creed Williamson chipped in four points off the bench.

Arkansas Tech (4–5, 2–1) was led by Devin Foster's 16 points and Sam Bradford's 11, but shot just 9-of-31 from deep. The Wonder Boys built a 31–27 halftime lead thanks to 15 made free throws in the opening period, but managed just nine second-half free throws.

The second half featured nine lead changes before the Reddies took the lead for good at the 2:18 mark on Owens' free throw. Henderson's largest advantage was the final margin of seven with 11 seconds left.

Henderson State returns to GAC play this weekend, looking to extend its winning streak with a road matchup at Harding.
