Reddies Rout Tigers in Saturday Matchup

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State, powered by a blistering start from Xavier Owens and a smothering defensive effort, stormed to a 75–51 win over East Central on Saturday afternoon at the Duke Wells Center.

Owens scored the first 12 points of the game, burying a pair of threes and scoring at all three levels as the Reddies opened on a 12–0 run and never trailed in the ballgame, leading for 39:42 of the game's 40 minutes. He finished with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting in just under 24 minutes.

Thanks to that early burst, Henderson State (4–4, 1–1 GAC) controlled the game from the opening tip, holding East Central to 32 percent shooting for the afternoon and limiting the Tigers to just 18 points in the paint and zero second-chance points.

KJ Sykes led the Reddies with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, adding four assists and three steals. Zaveion Okoh scored 18 and hit three 3-pointers, while Tyson Whybrew posted a double-double with 12 rebounds and six points.

Henderson shot 59 percent from the field and outscored ECU 30–18 in the paint and 13–2 in fast-break points. The Reddies' lead reached 20 points early in the second half, and got up to as many as 25 points.

Hudson Linsenmeyer scored 15 to lead East Central (4–3, 0–2), which never held a lead and committed 17 turnovers.

Henderson State returns to conference play next Thursday with a home matchup against GAC rival Arkansas Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
