ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State went down to the wire against Southeastern Oklahoma State for the second time this season, and
Rondae Hill responded once again with a clutch game-winner.
The Reddies battled the Savage Storm in a shootout, with both teams shooting above 55 percent from the field on the night. It was Hill who stole the show with a game-winning and-one layup with four seconds remaining.
Hill went to the free throw line with the score knotted at 91, looking to put HSU up one. The freshman from Shreveport, Louisiana, connected on his free throw, giving the Reddies a 92-91 lead. The Savage Storm got a look off at the buzzer but did not connect on the attempt. Hill scored 19 points on six-of-nine shooting and dished out nine assists - a career high.
As a team, Henderson scored 64 points in the paint.
Nehikhare Igiehon led the Reddies with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. All starters recorded a positive plus-minus rating and combined for 70 of the Reddies' 92 points. As a team, HSU made seven more shots than the Savage Storm, including nine more shots from the field.
Matthew Mayes scored 14 points and recorded four stocks (steals+blocks) in his role off of the bench. Mayes shot six-of-10 from the field and grabbed four rebounds.
The Reddies improved to 13-7 overall and 9-5 in GAC play, sitting tied Ouachita Baptist and Harding for third in the conference.
