ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State clinched its first conference series win of the season with a 6-3 victory over ECU on Monday.
After splitting Sunday's doubleheader with the Tigers, the Reddies got on the board first in game three with a three-run homer from Arkadelphia native Tripp Campbell in the bottom of the first inning. Two innings later, Jeremy Schork hit a two-run blast - his GAC-leading sixth home run of the season - to extend HSU's lead to five.
ECU finally broke through with an RBI single from Trace Necessary in the top of the sixth, cutting the deficit to four. HSU got that run back in the bottom of the seventh via a designed base running play that saw Louis steal home. The Tigers plated two runs (one unearned) in the top of the ninth, but Tyler Bates locked down a nine-out save to give Henderson the win in both game three and the series.
Cole Rodriguez threw no-hit baseball for five innings to open his third start of the year. The senior from Tomball, Texas, earned his first winning decision and quality start of 2025 by allowing one run and striking out seven batters in six innings on the mound.Â
Bates earned his first save of the year after striking out five and giving up one earned run in three innings of relief work.
Schork reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances. He walked a season-high three times in the victory.
Luke Rice recorded two hits, giving him a multi-hit performance for the fourth time in his last six games. The first baseman scored twice during Monday's contest.
Holt stole two bases in the bottom of the seventh.
Next weekend, the Reddies will travel to Southeastern Oklahoma State for their first road series of conference play. Game one of the three-game set is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 21.
