Reese Weaks, Reddie Offense Shine in 12-2 Victory over No. 18 UAM

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  —  Henderson State opened up its weekend series with an eight-inning, 12-2 win over No. 18 Arkansas-Monticello at Clyde Berry Field on Friday. All nine of the Reddies' starting batters hit safely as Reese Weaks recorded six innings of shutout work on the mound.

HSU got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third, including two driven in by an Austin Scritchfield single. The Reddies added two more runs via a Luke Rice fielder's choice and a Tripp Campbell RBI single. Louis Holt recorded an RBI double in the fifth to make it 6-0. Scritchfield upped his RBI total to four with a two-run triple in the sixth. He was then driven in by Reddie shortstop Cal Jones. The Boll Weevils cut into the deficit with RBI doubles from Cade Cancilla and Chase Cripps in the seventh and eighth inning, respectively. In the bottom of the eighth, Luke Farrar provided a run-rule finish by hitting a single that resulted in two RBI and an additional run scored on an error in left field.

Weaks struck out nine in his first quality start of the season. The senior from Princeton, Texas, allowed no runs and only two hits in his six frames on the bump.

Mitchell Szczygiel collected two strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Austin Scritchfield paced the team with three hits and the aforementioned four RBIs.

Farrar and Rice finished the night with two hits and a double apiece.

Jaxson Gregg, Jeremy Schork, and Jones each recorded two base knocks and scored once. Gregg got the game's scoring started by driving in a run while reaching on an error in the third.

Holt and Alex Galvan both doubled one time in the victory.

Campbell rounded out the Reddie hit parade with his RBI single.

Henderson will look to earn the series win over nationally-ranked UAM when the two teams meet for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday, Mar. 1.
