Henderson State Sweeps Doubleheader, Series Versus SNU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  —  Henderson State secured a series sweep and made it 25 consecutive wins versus Southern Nazarene by winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Crimson Storm. The Reddies topped SNU 7-3 in game one before polishing off the series with an 8-5 comeback win in game two.

GAME ONE
Southern Nazarene got things going in the top of the first with an RBI sac fly from Blake Brinkmeyer. Jaxson Gregg retorted with a sacrifice fly of his own in the bottom half of the inning. Gregg later put HSU on top with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. In the sixth, the Reddies tacked on three more insurance runs courtesy of a two-run error and a Jeremy Schork RBI single. Julio Vasquez would provide Henderson with its final run on an RBI base hit in the eighth. SNU put up two runs in the top of the ninth to give the game its final score.

Cole Rodriguez locked up his fourth win of the year as well as a quality start by throwing six innings of one-run baseball. He struck out three batters while allow just four hits.

Caleb Wilson allowed no baserunners in a single inning of relief work.

Vasquez led the team with three hits in the win. The Reddie catcher doubled once and came around to score twice.

Gregg and Nate Moore each had two hits.

Schork and Cal Jones rounded out the Reddie hit parade. Jones also earned a walk.

Luke Farrar and Alex Galvan both walked twice in the first of Saturday's two games. Farrar scored two times.

GAME TWO
The Crimson Storm once again plated the first run of the contest in the top of the first inning - this time on an error. SNU grew its lead to three with a two-run triple from Aiden McCullough in the second. The Reddies broke into the run column in the bottom half of the inning via a Nate Moore RBI single. In the third, HSU cut the deficit to one when Luke Farrar scored on a wild pitch. In the next two innings, Southern Nazarene would get those two runs back to make it a 5-2 game heading into the bottom of the fifth. This frame would ultimately prove to be the turning point for the home team.

Henderson's fifth-inning scoring rally started with a two-run single from Alex Galvan. Cal Jones then helped the Reddies take the lead with a two-run base knock of his own. Louis Holt drove in a run on a groundout to the right side of the infield, extending HSU's advantage to two runs in the process. Farrar plated the final run of both the inning and the day on an RBI single. The Reddies ended up bringing 10 men to the plate and pushing across six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Moore paced the team with three hits.
