SEARCY, Ark. — Henderson State picked up its third win over a nationally-ranked opponent in four games when the Reddies took game one from No. 12 Harding in a doubleheader split with the Bisons on Friday. HSU earned a 4-1 victory in the first game before dropping the second by a score of 10-6.
GAME ONE
Harding scored the first run of the series on a sacrifice fly from Seth Johnson in the bottom of the second inning. From there, however, it was all Reddies.
Tripp Campbell tied up the contest in the fourth with an RBI single up the middle. In the seventh, a Bison throwing error resulted in Jaxson Gregg crossing home plate as the go-ahead run. Luke Farrar quickly followed up with a two-run single, and Henderson's 4-1 advantage held the rest of the way.Â
Reese Weaks recorded a second consecutive quality start and his third winning decision in four conference outings. On Thursday, he allowed just one run on two hits while striking out four batters.
Payton Byrd locked down his fifth save of the year after throwing two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Alex Galvan boasted the only multi-hit performance from a member of either team.
Farrar, Gregg, Campbell, and Luke Rice each recorded a hit in the win. Jeremy Schork, Louis Holt, Gregg, and Campbell served as the team's four runs in the game.
GAME TWOÂ
Luke Rice helped Henderson open the game on the right foot with a solo home run in the top of the first. In their next three trips to plate, however, the Bisons would grow a commanding lead by scoring nine unanswered runs. A Luke Farrar RBI single and RBI groundouts from Jeremy Schork and Jaxson Gregg helped the Reddies cut the deficit to five in the fifth inning. HU's Harrison Griffith got one of those runs back in the sixth with an RBI base knock of his own. Austin Scritchfield posted two RBI on a base hit in the seventh, but HSU's comeback ended up going no further.
Louis Holt recorded HSU's only multi-hit outing in the loss.
The rest of the Reddie hit parade included the likes of Farrar, Rice, Mitchell Szczygiel, Tripp Campbell, and Cal Jones.
Austin Rainey tallied three innings of relief work with no earned runs allowed.
