The Reddies (23-17, 16-11) have now won six of their last seven GAC weekend series and return to action at home on Tuesday when they host Arkansas Tech in midweek play at 6 p.m.
GAME ONE: Henderson State 10, Northwestern Oklahoma State 5
Powered by a relentless offensive performance that included five home runs, Henderson State rolled to a 10–5 road victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at Glass Family Field to even the teams' GAC weekend series at a game apiece.
The Reddies erupted early, plating six runs across the first two innings and never looked back. Designated hitter Jeremy Schork led the charge with a career day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, and five RBIs, including a three-run blast in the first inning that set the tone.
Junior third baseman Dylan Block also homered twice, including a solo shot in the eighth, and finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Catcher Julio Vasquez added a solo homer in the ninth to cap off the Reddies' 16-hit performance.
After starter Ethan Roark allowed five runs through 4.2 innings, reliever Tyler Bates shut the door on the Rangers' offense, scattering three hits over 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. Closer Payton Byrd struck out four over the final two frames to notch his GAC-best 10th save of the season.
Northwestern Oklahoma battled back with a three-run fifth inning, but Henderson's bullpen stifled the rally. The Rangers stranded eight runners and struck out 12 times in the game.
GAME TWO: Henderson State 16, Northwestern Oklahoma State 10
In a literal "game of runs," Henderson State came up with the biggest one and scored 11-straight after falling behind 8-5 to roar back in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and defeat NWOSU 16-10.
The Reddies scattered 17 hits in the victory, including four doubles and four home runs. Schork was the catalyst once again, going 2-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs. Four of his runs driven in came on a grand slam in the sixth — his third home run of the doubleheader and his 14th of the season.
Schork was far from the only Reddie who had a big game at the plate. Luke Rice finished 3-for-4 and scored four runs, Alex Galvan drove in four and had a go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth, Dylan Block was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run, and Julio Vasquez went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.
Henderson got off to a dream start and led 5-0 in the top of the third inning, but NWOSU rallied and plated four runs in both the third and fourth frames to seize an 8-5 lead going to the fifth.
After eight-straight runs from the Rangers, the Reddies answered with 11 over the next three innings to decide the game. Galvan's three-run shot in the fifth gave HSU the lead back at 9-8 and they never slowed down, plating five more in the sixth inning thanks to Schork's grand slam, and another two for insurance in the seventh.
Dawson Goines pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Reddies and limited the Rangers to two runs on three hits while striking out six batters.
