Reddies Sweep Doubleheader, Clinch Series Over East Central

ADA, Okla. — Henderson State Softball wraps up final road series of the regular season in dominant fashion on Friday, sweeping doubleheader against East Central winning 6-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two.

The Reddies opened the afternoon with a 6-3 win in game one behind yet another gem from Makenna Keeton (9-7) and Presley Applegate (7).

Keeton tossed five innings of one run ball, Keeton allowed just five hits and three total run, two being earned. Applegate shut the door over the final two to earn her seventh save of the season which ranks her top five in the nation in saves.

Offensively, Henderson struck early with a three-run first inning. Macy Hoskins got the offense rolling with a single to left field scoring Hilary Akers. The middle of the Reddie lineup battled and both Raylee Carey and Jay Albiter walked in runs.

Henderson State broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth thanks to a heads-up base running from Josie Golden, scoring off a Tiger error and a two-run triple from Justine Burch which scored Akers and Albiter.

The top of the HSU lineup batted a combined 7-11 with four runs, three RBIs and a walk in game one.

In game two, Henderson State rode the momentum to a 6-2 victory, highlighted by another strong outing in the circle—this time from Jersey Cabana. Cabana improved to 11-2 on the year after holding the Tigers to just two runs across six innings.

The Reddie offense delivered 10 hits, including multi-hit games from Akers, Josie Copeland, and Brooke Johnson. Johnson drove in four of the team's six runs, including a clutch two-run double in the first inning.

Following Johnson's two run double in the first the Reddies went silent until the fifth when Johnson drove in Akers. The Reddies secured the win with a big three-run seventh inning, Copeland and Johnson each drove in a run and the Reddies scored on a double steal with Copeland and Addison Tidwell.

With the back-to-back wins, Henderson State secured the series victory over the Tigers and picked up its first road GAC series win this season. With GAC Tournament implications on the line tomorrow a series sweep would nearly guarantee a postseason berth for the Reddies in the first season under head coach Joel Worthington and their second postseason berth in a row.
