CLINTON, Miss. – Henderson State erupted for 15 runs on 11 hits, using a relentless offensive attack and shutdown pitching to cruise past Mississippi College 15-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Frierson Field.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning on a two-run homer by Mississippi College's Korey Cooper, the Reddies (21-17) responded with runs in six of the next seven innings — including a five-run fifth and three-run frames in both the seventh and eighth.
Designated hitter Jeremy Schork led the way at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, including a key two-run double in the seventh. Jaxson Gregg was a spark in the middle of the lineup as well, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored, highlighted by an RBI double down the left-field line in the eighth.
Eight of Henderson State's nine starters reached base, with Dylan Block adding a 2-for-4 performance with a double and three RBIs. Cal Jones drew three walks, scored three runs, and stole home as part of a delayed double steal in the fifth inning. The Reddies also showcased aggressive base-running with four stolen bases.
On the mound, Payton Windham (2-0) earned the win, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out three. Relievers Baylor Brumley and Ryan Galvan shut the door, combining for four innings of one-hit, scoreless baseball with two strikeouts and just two walks.
Mississippi College (24-15) managed only four hits in the contest and was held scoreless after the fourth inning. The Choctaws used eight different pitchers, but none could stymie the Reddies' offensive onslaught.
Henderson State returns to action on Friday when it opens a three-game GAC series on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
