2025 Reddie Football Fall Camp Preview

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State Reddies have reported to Arkadelphia once again as they open 2025 fall camp.

The team reported to campus on Friday, August 8, with check-in and team and position meetings before a full team practice on Saturday. Two scrimmages will be scheduled throughout the preseason and will be open to the public.

The Reddies open up the season on Thursday, September 4 at 6 p.m. at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium against Southern Nazarene. HSU was picked fourth in the GAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

QUARTERBACK
Redshirt senior Andrew Edwards returns for his fourth season as a starter. The Bentonville, Arkansas product accounted for 2,779 total yards and 29 touchdowns a season ago. Edwards added three GAC Player of the Week Awards and a Second Team All-GAC honor to his many accolades since taking over the starting position in 2022. Zach Baker and Braxton Roberts return to provide depth at the position, and newcomer Austin Ledbetter looks to make an impact in his first year in Arkadelphia.

RUNNING BACK
The Reddies most experienced unit returns for another year, with Jeremiah Davis and Fredrick O'Donald returning for another campaign. Davis was the primary rusher last year, rushing for 706 yards and nine touchdowns, the most of any Reddie non-quarterback in 2024. After being hampered by injuries in 2024, O'Donald returns to camp healthy and looking to make an impact in the backfield. He scored three touchdowns and ran for 141 yards in last year's season opener, and crept over the 1,000-yard mark for his career. Dylan Jones stepped up in O'Donald's absence and was more than functional in the backfield. Jones totaled 171 yards and three touchdown rushes in nine games. Elijah Naziruddin looks to expand his role this season; the sophomore primarily played with the second unit last season, but has the potential to be an explosive option in the offense.

WIDE RECEIVER
Henderson State loses last season's leading receiver Timeone Jackson, but returns valid depth across the position. Elijah George, Micah Greene, and Jody Easter return from a unit that finished second in the GAC in receiving yards. George has been a red zone threat during his tenure in Arkadelphia, with seven of his career 32 receptions resulting in touchdowns. Greene averages more than a reception per game for his career, and had a career best 57 yards and two touchdowns last season against NWOSU. Easter, known more for his special-teams contributions early in his career, looks to become a threat in the Reddie offense. Jacaylon Zachery and Ja'Cori Williams look for an increased role in 2025 after serving as depth players.

TIGHT END
All-American Cayden Davis returns for a senior season with high expectations. In 2024, he became the first-ever Henderson State tight end to be named an All-American and added a second First Team All-GAC honor to what has already been a celebrated career. Davis hauled in 22 catches for 430 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. Cameron Galliher returns in a backup role. Newcomer Evan Bailey and returner Braden Arnold look to earn his way onto the field in what is a crowded tight end room.

OFFENSIVE LINE
One of the units that faces the most turnaround is the Reddie offensive line. Gabe Hernandez returns at center and is the only starter to return from the 2024 unit. Hernandez played in all 11 games last season; he will anchor a unit featuring just three other returners: Davon Collier, Richard Killian, and Devin Walter, all of whom saw limited action.

DEFENSIVE LINE
Another unit that returns limited numbers in 2024. Catrell Wallace is the only rotation player returning for the Reddies in 2025. Wallace, a Bryant native, has amassed 77 total tackles in his career, including 16.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He will need to step into a leadership role to help mentor a young unit of first-time Reddies.

LINEBACKER
The linebacking corps returns two starters, one rotation player, and several second-year Reddies looking to prove themselves. Jordan Owens was named All-GAC Third Team a year ago after a year in which he led the team with 55 tackles. Ryan Hampton played in nine games and accounted for 19 tackles; he was also a GAC Academic Team honoree. Kemaj Robinson, Gerard Culotta, and James Sneed saw limited action in 2024 and hope to make their mark with the HSU defense.

SECONDARY
The Reddie secondary returns what could be the deepest group the Reddie defense has had in recent memory. Jordan Batts, Kolbi Crawford, and Bryant Hammond II all played significant snaps last season; Batts was a strong tackler at the second and third levels, Crawford was third on the team in tackles and led the team in pass breakups, while Hammond collected 38 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups. Those players accounted for three of the Reddies' top seven tacklers. Leo Morris and Paul Manning look to add to their responsibilities this season: Morris was ninth on the team in tackles, while Manning added multiple tackles, pass break-ups, and interceptions. Matthew Gainey, Dalan Hicks, and Ayden Ramirez all saw limited action last season and look to provide even more depth throughout the year.

SPECIAL TEAMS
All-GAC punter Axel Robertson returns for another season after averaging over 43 yards per punt last season. He pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 21 times in 50 attempts on the season. Robertson also split action on kickoffs, where he averaged over 55 yards per kick. Ryan McDonnell finds himself in Arkadelphia for the first season and has been impressive in limited reps so far.
