ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies bounced back tonight with a sweep against the Southern Arkansas Muleriders, 3-0.
The Reddies were outstanding offensively tonight, as national leader
Katilyn Steffes provided 17 kills, while
Savannah Coats followed with 10.
Tyhia Mack orchestrated the offense tonight, providing 21 assists, while
Skylar Holler added on 17. Defensively,
Kaylon Partain recorded 21 digs, while
Katilyn Steffes and
Berkeley Berry had 11 and 10 respectively.
"I think we played well." Said Coach McDaniel, "I like what we're doing offensively, I loved the energy we had tonight, we just got to keep it going on Tuesday."
Match Recap
In the first set, the Reddies got to a quick start, quickly taking the lead 4-1. The Muleriders were able to come back and tie it 6-6, before
Katilyn Steffes landed a kill to recapture the lead. Another 3-0 run by the Reddies pulled them to an 11-9 lead, but SAU responded with their own 5-0 run to lead 14-11, and Henderson took a timeout.
Kelis Battles started another run by the Reddies with a kill, and a block by
Skye Johns gave Henderson a 17-15 lead, and SAU took a timeout. A 5-0 run by the Muleriders forced the second timeout by the Reddies with the score 20-17. Henderson rallied behind their own 5-0 run to recapture the lead 22-20. While the Muleriders were able to come back bringing the score to 23-22, two kills by
Katilyn Steffes ended the set for the Reddies, 25-22.
In the second set, a service ace by
Berkeley Berry gave the Reddies another 4-1 lead, but SAU were able to bring it to within one, with the score at 4-3. Both teams exchanged points, but the Reddies wouldn't let the Muleriders tie it. A kill by
Katilyn Steffes and
Cassidi Campbell brought the score to 15-11, and SAU took a timeout. While SAU was able to score a few points, a block by
Rylee Smith prevented a comeback, and the Muleriders took another timeout. The Reddies kept up the pressure, not letting SAU score any more than one point in a row, and ultimately won the second set off a kill by
Cassidi Campbell.
In the final set, service aces by
Berkeley Berry and
Kaylon Partain gave the Reddies another 4-1 lead, and SAU took a timeout. The Reddies maintained a lead the rest of the set, preventing any sort of surge by the Muleriders. A 4-0 run led by two kills by
Katilyn Steffes brought the score to 17-11, and Southern Arkansas took their last timeout. Two kills by
Lasheena Gooseberry continued to build the Henderson lead, and a kill by
Katilyn Steffes brought it to match point. While SAU was able to bring the score to 24-20,
Katilyn Steffes ended the match with a kill, securing the sweep for the Reddies, 25-20.
