Reddies Battle, Fall to Southern Arkansas at Home

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A fast start for the Henderson State offense turned into a defensive battle Saturday night, as the Reddies fell to Southern Arkansas at home by a final score of 24-21.

The Reddies wasted no time in the first quarter, taking the opening drive 75 yards in 12 plays, punctuated by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Edwards to Taylin Paskel. After holding Southern Arkansas to a 34-yard field goal and an ensuing punt by Henderson, the teams traded touchdown drives throughout the second quarter. The Muleriders threw the first punch on a Hezekiah Harris touchdown run, capping off a drive of over six minutes. HSU answered right back on their biggest play of the game, as Edwards connected with Paskel for the second time for a 91-yard touchdown, the biggest play by yardage of the 2025 season.

SAU answered right back with another Harris rushing touchdown, this time from four yards out to set the score at 17-14. That score would remain the same for the next quarter and a half, as the next points were put on the board by the Reddies less than a minute into the fourth quarter, as Jeremiah Davis scored from four yards out to give Henderson its final lead of the game at 21-17. On the ensuing drive, SAU's Arkez Gomez capped an 11-play, 70-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run.

HSU got the ball back with 9:27 to play in the game, but the offense could not convert, gaining just nine yards on six plays before punting the ball back to Southern Arkansas. The Muleriders drained nearly all of the final 6:06 before turning the ball over on downs at the HSU three-yard line. A last-stitch effort from the Reddie offense fell short.

The Reddies managed just 307 yards of total offense, with just 92 yards coming on the ground on 26 carries. Edwards was 18-27 passing for 215 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Paskel was the leading receiver on the night, hauling in four catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Davis led the run game with 66 yards on 12 carries, including the touchdown run.

Bryant Hammond II and Gerard Culotta led the team in tackles, with 11 and 10, respectively; Leo Morris had the lone turnover of the game, intercepting a Southern Arkansas pass on the first drive of the second half.

Henderson returns to the road next week, as they head to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
