Freshmen Shine, Reddies Lose to Wildcats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Reddies faced off against 21st ranked Wayne State College in round one of the Trevecca Nazarene Tournament, ultimately falling 3-0.

Freshman Tyhia Mack was a standout for the Reddies, collecting her first career double-double, racking up 12 assists and 11 digs. On the offensive front, 2024 GAC Newcomer of the Year Katilyn Steffes recorded 10 kills, while freshman Berkeley Berry led the entire match with four service aces.

"Tonight we ran into a solid Wayne State team who fundamentally made less errors than we did" said coach Phil McDaniel on the loss tonight. "Our first match, and lots of new faces, so I expect some growing pains. I think we learned a lot from playing a team of this caliber early in the season."

Match Recap
The match kicked off with the Wildcats taking an early lead, but Henderson fought back, as the set featured five lead changes. However, the Wildcats run could not be stopped, and Wayne State pulled ahead, ultimately winning the first set 25-19.

In the second set, Wayne State maintained momentum and held off any attempts for the Reddies to gain any foothold, winning the second set 25-14.

In the final set, Henderson showed some grit, taking the lead at one point in the third set, and tied the Wildcats twice, but still could not keep up, falling 25-18.
