Men's Basketball Struggles from Deep in Loss to Oklahoma Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State fell to Oklahoma Baptist 73-61 on Saturday afternoon at the Duke Wells Center.

The Reddies trailed 39-27 at halftime after Oklahoma Baptist shot 48.3 percent in the first half and made six 3-pointers. Henderson State closed the gap to six early in the second half but did not take the lead again.

Jabari West and Xavier Owens scored 13 points apiece for Henderson State (8-8, 5-5 GAC). KJ Sykes added 11 points, and Zaveion Okoh finished with 10. Henderson State shot 43.6 percent from the field but went 1 of 9 from 3-point range. The Reddies were 12 of 20 at the free-throw line.

The teams finished even with 32 points in the paint, but Oklahoma Baptist held a 42-32 rebounding advantage and scored 16 second-chance points. Henderson State forced 16 turnovers and scored 10 fast-break points.

Henderson State cut the deficit to seven with just over three minutes remaining before Oklahoma Baptist closed the game at the line.

The Reddies are back in action on Thursday, January 22nd in the first edition of the basketball Battle of the Ravine. Tip-off from Bill Vining Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
