Men's Basketball Stumbles at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State fell 90-60 to Ouachita on Thursday night at Vining Arena.

The Reddies trailed from the opening minutes as Ouachita built a 53-27 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and a 13-0 run midway through the first half. Henderson State shot 28.6 percent from the field in the opening period and went 1 of 9 from three-point range.

Henderson State improved its shooting after the break but could not cut into the deficit. The Reddies shot 50 percent in the second half but were outscored 37-33.

Creed Williamson led the Reddies with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in 17 minutes. Xavier Owens followed with eight points, all of which came from the free throw line. KJ Sykes added six points, six rebounds, and three assists, and Jabari West added eight points.

Ouachita shot 53.1 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range, while the Reddies were just 38.5 percent from the field (20-52) and 20 percent from three (3-15). The Tigers held a 37-27 rebounding edge and scored 40 points in the paint while holding HSU to 24 points inside.

Henderson State fell to 8-9 overall and 5-6 in Great American Conference play. Ouachita improved to 14-3 and 10-1 in the GAC.
