East Central Slows Reddies in Road Loss

ADA, Okla. — Henderson State opened with a 7-0 run but could not sustain the momentum Thursday night, falling to East Central 82-59 at Kerr Activities Center.

The Reddies (8-10, 5-7) scored the game's first seven points, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Zaveion Okoh and five quick points from Jabari West. Henderson State led 7-0 less than two minutes into the contest and held a 10-8 advantage at the 14:52 mark of the first half.

East Central (9-9, 4-8) responded with a sustained push and shot 57.9 percent in the first half to take a 37-30 lead into the break. The Tigers continued to extend the margin in the second half, shooting 66.7 percent after halftime and finishing at 63 percent for the game.

Henderson State struggled to find consistency from the perimeter. The Reddies went 4 of 20 from 3-point range, including 1 of 9 in the second half. Okoh, KJ Sykes and Xavier Owens each attempted multiple 3-pointers, but Henderson State was unable to generate a steady outside threat as East Central built separation.

Tyson Whybrew led the Reddies with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and added four rebounds. Okoh finished with nine points and six rebounds, while West scored six as part of the early surge. Creed Williamson added eight points off the bench.

East Central placed five players in double figures, led by Kameron Newsome with 16 points. Brandon Mann added 12 points and 10 assists, and Rustin Coffey scored 11.

After trailing by seven at halftime, Henderson State was unable to string together a run similar to its opening stretch. East Central pushed its lead to double digits early in the second half and led by as many as 23 in the closing minutes.

Henderson continues its road trip with a trip to Durant to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
