Reddies Suffer Heartbreak in Durant

DURANT, Okla. — Henderson State led by one with nine seconds remaining, but Southeastern Oklahoma State answered at the buzzer to hand the Reddies a 54-53 loss Saturday afternoon at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Tyson Whybrew put Henderson State in front 53-52 with a layup in the paint with 0:09 left. After a timeout, Jamal Drewery converted a jumper from outside the paint as time expired to lift Southeastern Oklahoma State to the win.

Henderson State (8-11, 5-8 GAC) led 31-28 at halftime and held the advantage for 18:47 of the game. The Reddies shot 43.8 percent from the field and limited Southeastern to 27.9 percent shooting, including 8 of 31 from three-point range.

Zaveion Okoh led Henderson State with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and made 4 of 6 from three-point range. KJ Sykes added 11 points, and Whybrew finished with eight points and five rebounds.

The Reddies outrebounded the Savage Storm 42-33 and held a 9-0 edge in points off turnovers. Henderson State scored just 18 points in the paint.
Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-14, 4-9 GAC) used a 13-0 run midway through the second half to build its largest lead at 44-33 with 11:42 remaining. Henderson State responded with a 6-0 run and later trimmed the deficit to one possession multiple times down the stretch.

Drewery made the last two baskets for the Storm: the basket before the game-winner was preceded by his two-point field goal with 11:42 remaining. Southeastern went nearly 12 minutes without a field goal down the stretch.

Sykes tied the game at 52 with a basket in the paint with 31 seconds left before Whybrew's layup gave the Reddies the lead on the next possession.

Henderson State returns to action Thursday at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
