Savage Storm Best Reddies in Road Contest

DURANT, Okla. – The Reddies continued their road trip in Durant, Oklahoma today, facing the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Reddies fell 67-91.

The Henderson State (11-6, 7-6) offense today was led by Brynlee Huggins who scored 21 points, followed by Jayla Lewis with 14, and Natalie Cardenas with 10. Grayson Fairless and Cardenas led the Reddies in rebounds, collecting six, while Lewis followed with five. Sam Basson was the distributor on the court, as she led with six assists. Defensively, Lewis recorded the lone block, and three Reddies had a steal each.

Southeastern got on the board early, scoring five straight before the Reddies scored off a Huggins layup. The Savage Storm kept up the early aggression, taking a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Lewis, Basson and Cardenas all scored threes to keep the Reddies in the game, trailing only by one with 2:42 left in the quarter. Southeastern didn't falter however and used some late momentum to hold a 27-15 lead going into the second quarter.

The second quarter continued the Savage Storm's momentum, as they pulled ahead 33-15 in the first two minutes. The Reddies continued to fight, as multiple Reddies nailed a three to keep Henderson State in the game. The Reddies shot 30 percent from three during the second quarter and outrebounded the Savage Storm 13-9. The Savage Storm led 47-31 going into the half.

Coming out of the half, it was the Reddies who were on the attack. As Henderson State outscored Southeastern 26-22 in the third quarter, shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 60 percent from three. Huggins scored 15 to keep the Reddies in the game, and Henderson State trailed 69-57 going into the final quarter.

The Reddies faltered in the fourth, managing only 10 points to Southeastern's 22, and shot only 21.4 percent from the field. The Reddies struggled to make shots, and ultimately couldn't keep up, falling to Southeastern 91-67.
