Offense Stumbles, Reddies Fall to Rangers at Home

ARKADLEPHIA, Ark. – The Reddies opened a four-game home stand against RV Northwestern Oklahoma State tonight, losing 59-73.

The Henderson State (11-7, 7-7) offense tonight was led by Natalie Cardenas, who scored 18 points. Sam Basson followed for the Reddies with a season-high 11 points, and Jayla Lewis scored nine. Grayson Fairless led the Reddies with six rebounds, while Marlee Raby had five. Brynlee Huggins was the main distributor for the Reddies, adding four assists, while Raby had two. Defensively, Fairless recorded three blocks tonight, while Raby recorded three steals.

The Reddies went even with the Rangers to start off the game, holding Northwestern to only four points in the first three minutes of the game, before an 8-0 run pushed the Rangers ahead, and the score sat at 12-6 with five minutes left in the quarter. With two minutes left, Henderson State trailed 16-11, managing to score another point to end the first quarter down 20-12.

In the second quarter, Henderson State came alive, scoring four straight threes to take the lead 24-22. The Reddies used that momentum to keep pace with the Rangers, as the lead changed three times until the last two minutes, where Northwestern recaptured the lead 33-30, but the Reddies were able to score two to trail by only one going into the half.

The Reddies continued to keep pace, using a three to recapture the lead 38-37, but Northwestern scored to hold off a Reddie push. Henderson State continued to trail, managing to narrow the lead to 43-42 with five minutes left in the quarter, but the Rangers held the Reddies scoreless the rest of the quarter, going 14-0 to end the third quarter ahead 57-42.

Fouls plagued the Reddies in the fourth quarter, as the first three minutes gave Northwestern seven points off fouls, and a 63-47 lead. The Reddies continued to fight, managing to score three to stem the momentum of the Rangers, but Northwestern scored four more and led 68-50 with four minutes left. Henderson State outscored the Rangers 9-5 in the last four minutes, but it wasn't enough, and Northwestern won the game 73-59.
