Reddie Women’s Basketball Defeats SWOSU in First Road Game of 2026

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Reddies bested the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first road game of the 2026 portion of the season, defeating them 83-65.

(RV) Henderson State (9-2, 5-2) were led today by Brynlee Huggins, who scored a career-high 28 points, who was 10-16 from the floor, and 6-10 from three. Natalie Cardenas added 20 points, while Riley Samples and Grayson Fairless provided 16 and 12 respectively. Fairless led the Reddies with 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, while Cardenas provided seven. Cardenas led the Reddies with six assists, while Huggins and Kadee Keaster followed with three.

Game Recap
The Reddies got off to a hot start, as Cardenas scored the first points of the game. Fairless and Samples added five to give the Reddies a 7-0 lead with 6 minutes left in the quarter. Another three by Samples extended the lead to 10-0. The Reddies continued to put up points while their defense held strong. The Bulldogs were unable to score a point in the quarter until three minutes left in the quarter, with Henderson State leading 20-3. A third three by Samples held the Reddie lead at 25-6 going into the last minute of the quarter. Jayla Lewis landed another three for the Reddies to end the first quarter, with Henderson leading 28-6.

SWOSU opened the scoring for the second quarter and narrowed the lead to 28-12 in the first three minutes before the Reddies scored, as Huggins scored three to set the score to 31-12 with 7:39 left in the half. While SWOSU added four more points, Huggins scored another two to end the run, and with five minutes left in the half, the Reddies held a 35-18 lead. Huggins scored another three, and Henderson State held a 38-22 lead with three minutes left. In the final minute, SWOSU attempted to narrow the lead more, adding three more, while the Reddies added five, and going into halftime, Henderson State led 43-25.

The Bulldogs tried to recapture some momentum going into the second half, scoring five to narrow the lead to 43-30, before a three by Cardenas extended Henderson's lead. Another three by Huggins gave the Reddies a 51-32 lead with 7:17 remaining. Cardenas added six points to give the Reddies a 20-point lead with four minutes left in the quarter. Fairless added six points to her total to hold the Henderson State lead at 65-47 to end the third quarter.

Fairless continued to put up points to start the final quarter, scoring the first four for the Reddies, as they held a 69-48 lead with 8:51 left in the game. Samples added three to give the Reddies another 20-point lead 72-52, before SWOSU scored seven to lower the lead for Henderson State at 74-59 with six minutes left. Huggins scored five as part of a seven-point surge to put the Reddies at 81-64 with 2:44 left in the game. Henderson State's defense held strong in the last two minutes of the game, limiting the Bulldog offense to only one point off of a free-throw to claim the victory 83-65 over Southwestern Oklahoma State.
