Road Trip Opens with 3-1 Reddie Loss to Rangers

ALVA, Okla. — Henderson State began a two-match road trip with their first stop in Alva, Oklahoma where they faced off against the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State, falling 3-1.

The Reddies (9-9, 3-3) were led tonight by Kelis Battles, who had 14 kills on the night, with Calee Carter following with 11. Tyhia Mack collected the most assists on the night, with 20, while Alyssa Lindeman followed with 18. Defensively, Kaylon Partain had 22 digs on the night, with Battles following with 19. Karsen Hart and Cassidi Campbell both had a solo block.

Match Recap
The Reddies claimed the opening set 25-20 behind a balanced attack. Henderson State used a 5-0 run midway through the set to turn a 5-5 tie into a 9-5 advantage, with Battles and Carter providing key kills during the stretch. Northwestern Oklahoma State battled back to tie the set at 16-16, but Henderson State regained control late. Hart's kill gave the Reddies a 25-20 victory and an early 1-0 lead.

Northwestern Oklahoma State answered in the second set, although Henderson State stayed within striking distance throughout. The Reddies opened with a 5-1 lead and later held a 17-15 advantage. The Rangers rallied to tie the set at 17-17 before the teams traded points down the stretch. Northwestern Oklahoma State took a 24-22 lead and closed the set 25-23 to even the match.

The third set belonged to the Rangers. Henderson State led 6-4 early, but Northwestern Oklahoma State responded with a 7-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. The Rangers continued to build their advantage, extending it to 17-10 before Henderson State attempted to rally. The Reddies cut the deficit to 20-14, but Northwestern Oklahoma State finished the set 25-16 to move ahead 2-1.

Henderson State again kept the fourth set close in the early stages. The Reddies tied the set at 4-4 and remained within two points at 10-8 before Northwestern Oklahoma State began to pull away. The Rangers used a 5-0 stretch to take a 14-8 lead and later extended the margin to 21-14. Henderson State fought back to make it 21-16, but Northwestern Oklahoma State scored the next three points to reach match point and eventually finished the set 25-16.

Henderson State's road trip continues tomorrow, Friday October 2nd in Weatherford Oklahoma. There, the Reddies will face off against Southwestern Oklahoma State with the match scheduled to begin at 4:00 P.M in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
