WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Henderson State concluded their two-match road trip in Weatherford, Oklahoma tonight, where they faced off against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Unfortunately, the Reddies could not come out on top and fell 3-0.
The Reddies (9-10, 3-4) were led tonight by
Kelis Battles, who had 11 kills on the night, with
Cassidi Campbell and
Shiloh Jones following with seven.
Tyhia Mack collected the most assists on the night, with 19, while
Mecate Marsh followed with eight. Defensively,
Kaylon Partain had 18 digs on the night, with
Trystin Ross following with 14. Five different Reddies collected a block.
Match Recap
Henderson State opened the match with an early back-and-forth exchange before Southwestern Oklahoma State began to pull away. The Reddies trailed 4-2 before the Bulldogs used a strong stretch of play to build a 10-2 advantage. Henderson State answered with several points of its own, cutting the deficit to 9-7, but Southwestern Oklahoma State regained control and extended its lead. The Bulldogs closed the set on a 5-1 run to take the opening frame 25-12.
The Reddies came out with a stronger response in the second set, trading points with the Bulldogs through the early stages. Henderson State remained within striking distance at 5-5 before Southwestern Oklahoma State put together a 5-0 run to move ahead 10-5. The Reddies continued to battle and later trimmed the deficit to 13-11 behind points from Battles and a service ace from Partain. Southwestern Oklahoma State answered by rebuilding its advantage and eventually reached set point at 24-19 before closing out the set 25-19.
Henderson State showed its best start of the match in the third set, overcoming an early 4-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead. The Reddies maintained the momentum for a stretch, later tying the set at 11-11 after three consecutive points. Southwestern Oklahoma State responded with a 7-1 run to establish an 18-12 advantage. Henderson State fought back, cutting the deficit to 19-15 and later 23-18, but the Bulldogs held on to finish the match with a 25-19 victory.
