Reddies Sweep Bleu Devils, Softball Wins Second Road Double Header

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Reddies (4-2, 0-0) continued the long road portion of their schedule in New Orleans, where they swept the Bleu Devils of Dillard University (0-2, 0-0), winning 9-0 in five innings, then 14-4 in six innings.

Game One: Henderson State 9, Dillard 0
The Reddies came to play in game one, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Mazzi Jones hit a single to center that scored both Penelope Foote and Macy Hoskins. In the second inning, Tatum Bittick singled to put two on base after a walk by Jay Albiter, before Hilary Akers hit a double to score both. Hoskins came up later in the inning and hit a sacrifice fly to score Akers.

The runs continued to go up for the Reddies, as in the third, a walk and a single by Alyx Frost put two on base, and Akers scored both of a single to left. A double by Foote scored Akers, and the Reddies 8-0 after the third inning. The scoring continued in the fifth inning, as Albiter stole home to put Henderson State up 9-0 and ended the game.

The Reddies scored nine runs off of eight hits with Akers leading the way going 2-4 with four RBIs. Jones went 1-2 with 2 RBIs, and Bittick went 2-3. Presley Applegate (3-0) started for the Reddies and pitched the entire shutout, giving up only three hits, with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Game Two: Henderson State 14, Dillard 4
Henderson State started out slower in game 2, with Penelope Foote hitting a single, then advancing to second on a stolen base, before a single by Emily Graves scored Foote. The scoring didn't continue until the fourth inning, where Jay Albiter reached first off a single, then scored off a double by Langley Miller to give the Reddies a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. The Bleu Devils managed to score a run off a single, but still trailed 2-1.

In the fifth, the Reddies got hot, scoring five runs. Foote reached first and advanced to third before Mazzi Jones hit a single to score Foote. Sam Flores advanced the runners with single, before Josie Copeland doubled to score both, giving the Reddies a 5-1 lead. Another double by Albiter scored Copeland, and Miller hit a double to score Albiter, giving Henderson State a 7-1 lead going into the sixth.

The Reddies continued to pile on the runs, as two walks and a hit by pitch filled the bases, where Flores hit a base-clearing double to score three, Henderson leading now 10-1. The bases loaded again after Paige Brandes singled and Albiter walked. Miller hit a single and scored Flores, before Hilary Akers hit a sacrifice fly to score Brandes. A single by Annie Stonesifer scored Albiter and Miller to end the scoring run. The Reddies went on to win 14-4 after Dillard scored three in the bottom of the sixth, unable to catch up.

The Reddies scored 14 runs off of 17 hits with Miller leading the way hitting 3-4 with three RBIs two doubles and a single. Albiter went 3-3 with two doubles, and Sam Flores went 2-4 with three RBIs. Jersey Cabana (1-2) got the start on the mound in game two, pitching five of the six innings, giving up eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Up next -
Henderson State continues their road trip in Mobile, Alabama, where they'll face off against Spring Hill College in a three-game series. A double header will start off the series for the Reddies on Friday February 13th, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 P.M. The second game will follow some time after.
