MOBILE, AL - The Reddies (6-2, 0-0) continued the road trip in Mobile, Alabama, where they faced off against the Spring Hill College Badgers in a double header. Henderson State won the first game 12-8 in ten innings, and then won the second game 5-1.
Game One: Henderson State 12, Spring Hill College 8
Henderson State came out hot in the first game, as
Penelope Foote hit a single to advance
Hilary Akers, before a double by
Josie Copeland scored Akers, and Foote advanced to third. A single by
Macy Hoskins scored Foote from third, and
Josie Golden followed up with another single to score Copeland. The runs continued in the second inning, as Akers reached on a single before scoring the first run of the second inning. After Copeland hit a double, Hoskins hit another double to score Copeland, giving Henderson State a 5-0 lead going into the third inning.
Spring Hill responded in the fourth inning, scoring four and then another scored run in the sixth to tie it 5-5. Neither team was able to score in the seventh, so the game went to extra innings. In the eighth, a double by Akers scored
Jay Albiter, but Spring Hill was able to score in the bottom of the eighth to keep it tied.
Kyndlee Clark stole home in the ninth inning to put the Reddies ahead again, but another run by the Badgers tied the game again, 7-7.
The Reddies finally cracked open the game in the tenth, as a double by
Tatum Bittick scored both Albiter, who'd stolen second, and
Paige Brandes to put the Reddies up 9-7. A sacrifice fly by Akers scored Bittick, and Hoskins ended the game on a home run, scoring two.
The Reddies scored 12 runs off 21 hits with Hoskins leading the way going 5-5 with four RBIs, a double, and a home run. Copeland hit 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
Lacey Kelley made her Reddie debut, pitching three innings, giving up four runs with two strikeouts and three walks.
Jersey Cabana came in relief and pitched the remaining innings, giving up four runs with four strikeouts and no walks.
Game Two: Henderson State 5, Spring Hill College 1
The scoring started late in the second game, with Henderson State putting the first runs on the board in the fourth inning.
Macy Hoskins started the inning off with a single, with
Jay Albiter advancing her to third with a single of her own.
Abby Brinkley hit a single to score Hoskins, before an error by the Badgers allowed
Mazzi Jones and Albiter to score, with Brinkley advancing to third, giving Henderson State
The seventh inning secured the win for the Reddies, as
Josie Copeland smashed a home run to score
Hilary Akers, who'd singled earlier in the inning. This gave the Reddies a 5-0 lead, and ultimately, Spring Hill couldn't catch up, managing to score only one run, and Henderson State claimed game two 5-1.
Henderson State scored five runs on eight hits, Copeland leading for the Reddies, going 2-4 with two RBIs and a home run.
Presley Applegate (4-0) earned the start, pitching six innings while giving up 10 hits with no runs, and recording a strikeout.
Maddie Fulmer came into the game in the seventh to secure the save for Henderson State, recording a strikeout against only four hits and a run.
