Baseball Uses Mid-Innings Rally to Win at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. — Henderson State scored six runs across the sixth and eighth innings to erase an early deficit and defeat Mississippi College, 8-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Reddies (5-3) gave up two runs early before settling in and taking control late.

Mississippi College struck for two runs in the first on a two-run double three batters into the game. Henderson State was held without a hit through the first three innings before breaking through in the fourth.

A two-out rally tied the game. Adam Garcia delivered an RBI double to left that plated Tripp Campbell before Grant Fitch drove Garcia in on a single to center and evened the score at 2-2.

The Choctaws regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a run-scoring groundout, but the Reddies answered with their decisive frame in the sixth.

Henderson State pushed across four runs with two outs. Nate Moore lined a two-run single up the middle to score Caleb Bryant and A. Garcia. Cale Edmonds added an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Boe Rodriguez brought home another run on a groundout as the Reddies built a 6-3 lead.

Mississippi College trimmed the margin to 6-4 in the seventh, but Henderson State responded in the eighth. Mason Krznarich drove a double into the gap for two RBIs, extending the advantage to 8-4.

The Choctaws added a run in the eighth and loaded the bases, but the Reddies turned to Tyler Bates to close the door. Bates struck out two in 1.1 innings to lock down the save for HSU.

Moore finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a stolen base. Krznarich drove in two runs, and Garcia scored twice. Henderson State pitchers combined for six strikeouts and limited Mississippi College to six hits.

The Reddies are back in action Friday night as they open a three-game GAC series with Southeastern Oklahoma State.
