SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Reddies traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma tonight to face the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist, but fell 76-70.
Jayla Lewis led the Henderson State (14-9, 10-9) offense tonight, scoring 26 points, including a perfect 6 for 6 from three.
Grayson Fairless added 12 points for the Reddies, while Huggins added eight. Fairless led Henderson with six rebounds,
Natalie Cardenas and Lewis each added five as well. On the defensive side, Samples and Cardenas each had two steals, while Fairless and
Sam Basson added a block each.

In the first quarter, the Bison took an early lead 7-0 in the first three minutes, before Huggins got Henderson State on the board. The Reddies continued to fight, managing to trail only 13-9 after a three by Huggins with four minutes left in the quarter. In the last two minutes, there was a flurry scoring, which ended with OBU leading 22-13 with 1:23 left. HSU lowered the lead to 22-15 going into the second quarter.
Oklahoma Baptist continued to put on the pressure, extending their lead to 27-19 with five minutes left in the half. The Reddies continued to fight back, with
Riley Samples and
Marlee Raby each adding points to narrow the OBU lead to 31-23. They held The Bison to only four more points, and trailed 35-28 going into the half.
The second half began with the Reddies continuing to fight, but an 11-0 run by Oklahoma Baptist extended their lead to 46-30 after the first five minutes. Lewis ended the run with a layup, and added two three-pointers to narrow the OBU lead 48-39 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Reddies managed two more points and trailed 51-41 going into the final quarter.
The fourth began with more scoring from both teams, as the Reddies continued to fight. Basson nailed a three to trail by 12, but OBU surged to take a 65-48 lead with 6:00 left in the game. A three by Samples began a momentum swing, as the Reddies held OBU scoreless for over two minutes as Lweis nailed a three to trail 69-56 going into the final two minutes. The Reddies mustered 12 points in the final minute, but it wasn't enough, as Oklahoma Baptist held off the comeback and won the game 76-70.
