Reddie Offense Scores Early, Often in Win at Fort Smith

Henderson State erupted for 13 runs over the first three innings and rolled to a 19-7 victory over Arkansas–Fort Smith on Tuesday at Crowder Field.

The Reddies (7-5) collected 16 hits, including five home runs, and built a 13-1 lead before the Lions (1-11) mounted a response in the fifth.

Henderson State struck first in the opening inning. Tanner Ross launched a three-run homer to right after a leadoff double from Nate Moore and a walk to Tripp Campbell. Later in the frame, an RBI single from Cooper McClure pushed the lead to 4-0.

The Reddies broke the game open in the second. Campbell blasted a three-run homer to left, part of a five-run inning that included RBI hits from Moore and Mason Krznarich. Henderson State added four more runs in the third, highlighted by a three-run shot from Adam Garcia to right center that extended the margin to 13-1.

Cole McClendon fueled the offense from the lower half of the lineup, going 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, and two RBIs. Campbell drove in three runs and scored four times, while Ross, Garcia, and Krznarich each homered.

Arkansas–Fort Smith cut into the deficit with a five-run fifth inning. The Lions used three straight walks to load the bases before CJ Snowden delivered a two-run single and Nick Mazzolla added a two-run triple. A run-scoring single from JJ Young trimmed the lead to 13-6.

Henderson State answered with single runs in the sixth and seventh on home runs by Krznarich and McClendon. The Reddies added four more in the ninth, taking advantage of walks, a balk, and a two-run single from Boe Rodriguez to seal the win.

Cale Edmonds (1-0) earned the victory in relief, allowing one hit over two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Garrett Smith (0-2) took the loss for the Lions after surrendering eight runs in the first inning.
